Waste Management Situation
For those who are new or those who have forgotten, here are a few facts about our Waste Management situation.
- We enjoyed good service for years from Elmer Sanitary. Several years ago they sold their business. They are no longer around.
- We have 2 choices regarding waste management vendors – Waste Management and Arrow Sanitary. Others say we are too big.
- Waste Management costs significantly less than Arrow Sanitary.
- We have a volunteer who spends countless hours with contacts at the national and local level following up on issues with Waste management.
- If at the end of our contract with Waste Management, we decide we need to go with Arrow Sanitary, it will be a decision to increase our budget and probably our condo fees.
- Meanwhile we owe our volunteer a debt of gratitude for everything she has done, the hours she has spent with Waste Management reps, to try to make the process as effective as possible.
- Like many businesses these days, Waste management suffers from high turnover and lots of new employees.
We Can All Work to Make the Situation Better
This past week we received a warning from Waste Management about contaminating our recycling. They didn’t charge us this time, but in the future they will charge us for misusing the recycling bins. Here’s a photo of what they found:
Of course this could have been someone from the neighborhood misusing our recycling area. But if it’s any one of us, please know this will lead to higher costs for all of us and could cause a company to deny us service.
Additionally, when we do have a missed pickup, don’t overstuff garbage bins or leave garbage bags on the ground. Waste Management will not pick those up. Instead, please walk to another waste location to dispose of your material. For those who are unable to walk further with your garbage, consider asking a neighbor to help.
And Finally - a Heads Up from Waste Management
Since the holiday falls on a Thursday this week, the trash bins will not be emptied until Saturday, December 27. Again, please do your part to not overstuff bins or leave material outside of the bins. If you need help, please call on a neighbor.
Happy Holidays from the Glenwood Place Board and Glenwood Website Team
